Afghanistan Blog #5
My first impression of the book Come back to Afghanistan, that it was a terribly boring had overshadowed the real “potential” of this book. For me to truly realize how good the book was, I had to finish and look back over it. Once I did that the book just lit up in my mind and now I actually liked reading it. To fully appreciate what the country and people of Afghanistan have gone through you really have to ding deep into their history and look at the full story of what is going on there and what has already happened. I love the opinions that the book gives to the reader; it is a view that is not normally shared between the American news agencies. It gives the reader an inside view of how a newborn government is run, the complexity of defending a nation, and all of the struggles that go along with running a country. My favorite parts of the book are the struggles that Said and his family have to go through such as; their security, the managing of their lives, getting caught up in the struggles of the United States and Afghanistan, and sometimes just managing their own lives. I have to say that the most important thing that I took out of reading this book was the idea that almost everything is not as simple as it seems. To truly get the full picture of an event you have to be there and that is the most I important thing that I have learned from this book.
