Afghanistan Blog #6

At nine o’clock P.M. on May 5, four United States military contractors who work for the contracting firm Paravant allegedly shot and wounded 2 Afghani civilians. Paravant and other contracting firms including the infamous military contractors know as Blackwater International have come under criticism from the international community because of their recent actions which have involved the death and/or harming of civilians. At the time of the incident the four contractors were off duty and had been allegedly drinking which just adds to the want to remove all of the military contractors in foreign countries. The incident occurred when the contractors were involved in a car accident, and were approached by several Afghani strangers. The contractors supposedly told the strangers to stop multiple times, but when they didn’t stop the contractors opened fire and wounded the two Afghanis. The four contractors were all ex-military personnel who had previously served in military action throughout the world, and had been working in Afghanistan for Paravant for the past six months. The four soldiers were currently working on a training contract in which they helped the United States military train Afghani police, security forces, and the national army. As a result of the four contractors actions the firm has terminated all contracts with them and they have been instructed not to leave the country unless ordered to by the United States Department of defense. After the contractors had shot the civilians they were quickly brought to the local “hospital” and survived. The contracting firm and the United States Army have not named the contractors and the incident is pending investigation.
